March 2002: MG will be included in an all female painter group show at the Casa Vallarta in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Winter 2000: MG receives Editor's Choice Award from Art Crowd Magazine: "All Artists listed below are, in the opinion of the editors of Art Crowd Magazine, among the best working today." MG is included in the Art Crowd Magazine list in the oil painters category.

MG was born February 3, 1975 in Providence, Rhode Island USA. She received her BA in Political Science from Simon's Rock College of Bard, in Western Massachusetts.

MG is a self-taught painter. She first touched brush to canvas in 1998, while working a separate full time job. She was only able to find a few hours a month, but it was enough to kindle what is now her need to paint. In 1999, she left Rhode Island (USA) and moved to the Pacific coast of Mexico. She has been painting full time ever since.

MG currently paints by natural light only, outdoors on her studio verandah overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Working from models, imagination, travels, dreams and social issues, her style ranges from abstract to figurative. A number of series have developed, all are in progress:

Las Momias is a series of portraits inspired by the mummies of Guanajuato paired with portraits of living people. "As I painted each mummy, I thought on the possibilities of their lives...who had they been? After days and days of studying each mummy's bone structure, I began to see similarities to a few of my friends. The matches of the mummies to living humans are not intended to be exact, they are solely 'what ifs'. Even knowing the 'facts' of these mummies lives; where they lived, where they worked, their family history, how they died...their essence is still far from reach. The living visages are a reflection of that; the impossibility of knowing a soul during life, and the deepening ambiguities after death." - MG

Las Momias currently includes 12 paintings. All 12 are exhibited in Las Momias de Guanajuato.
Mexican land/seascapes from MG's Mexican travels. This series includes a large work depicting Tzintzuntzan moments after the dawn, dominating the fog (not yet photographed for presentation). Four works from this series are exhibited in Las Momias de Guanajuato.
Sin Reflexion is a series of self portraits. "This series is composed of simple unanalyzed moments of time, no posing, simply my view of myself during an average day's activities. In these self portraits, I wanted to bring what I see as close as possible to what is represented on my canvas; no camera, no mirror...no reflection" - MG
An untitled series capturing moments in time between MG and her lover. Some paintings are from her perspective, others are from an imaginary voyeur's viewpoint.
