LIFE AND DEATH
In days passed, the exhibition Las Momias de Guanajuato was inaugurated at the Galería de Arte Moderno de Guadalajara.
This show includes six portraits of the Mummies of Guanajuato paired with portraits of their living analogies and four related Mexican landscapes.
The mummies' portraits appear in a variety of formats from 70 x 90 cms to 80 x 120 CMS; they are painted with a style that combines expressionism and realism.
It is possible to contemplate the artist's four landscapes: Door addresses the theme of the choices within each life decision; The untitled seascape is a representation of nature's endurance and continuity through the passing of time; Lightning manifests the desire to control one's own destiny, and the last Counterpart is a self-portrait of the artist hung by a rope.
The exhibition Las Momias de Guanajuato is a reflection on the impossibility of knowing a soul during life, and the deepening ambiguities after death.
The American, MG, is a self-taught artist, this exhibition marks the beginning of her career. In 1999 she left the United States and moved to Mexico, at the moment she lives and works in Melaque, Jalisco.
